This is a PermaThread. I reserve the right to edit or delete messages in this thread, so it will serve as a permanent reference.

I suppose it would be nice if we could post all lyrics here that have anything to do with folk music, and Max, Dick, and Susan encourage us to do that. As a practical matter, we don't do it, for a number of reasons. I think many of us don't see a need to post "singer-songwriter" lyrics.
I'd like to dedicate this thread as a list of links to folk musician Web pages, particularly to musicians who provide their lyrics. Then we could tilt the balance toward traditional stuff here at Mudcat, and not be burdened with requests for singer-songwriter stuff that's readily available at the Website of the performer or holder of the copyright.
Feel free to post links to any musician sites you'd like us to know about (especially your own site, if you have one). I'll gradually incorporate your contributions into the second message in this thread. Please let us know if the site has lyrics.
Thanks.
-Joe Offer-

Note: this is a list of Web sites of performers, primarily folk musicians. The major lyrics Web sites are listed in the Mudcat FAQ, and many other lyrics sources are listed on our Links page. Thanks to all the people who have contributed links to this list. If you'd like to add or correct something, please post a message below. All messages posted in this thread are subject to editing and deletion.

For sheet music that's in the public domain, there's

  • Personal Reference Tools - searchable dictionary, thesaurus, and Bartlett's; may be helpful for lyric writers

To humor Catspaw, I guess we'd better include his contribution:

THEY ARE DELICIOUS. We make 'em about twice a year.

    Take 5 or 6 singer/songwriters/folksingers.
Boil over a roaring fire for 8 or 9 hours.
    De-bone.
Grind coarse in a meat grinder or a Fargo, North Dakota wood chipper (like in the film).
Season and salt to taste. (The spicier the better to cover up the negative aspects that are probably better left unmentioned here but are generally directly related to so many years of gazing at the small depressions in the middle of their abdomens).
Fill boiled intestines of cows or swine with this mixture.
Eat in a bun with onion, musturd, and/or ketchup.

Not your normal run of songwriter.
this guy specialises in songs for getting babies to sleep.

I just met him the other day and today I heard some of his work. It sounds good.

Jeff Warner's website is www.jeffwarner.com. There being no Lomaxes regularly plying the folksinger's trade these days, at least that I know about, this is a grievous an omission from the double-u section, let alone the whole list.
His new album, Jolly Tinker, is mostly drawn from the Frank and Anne Warner collection, and it is just terrific.
